Cadillac History:
Cadillac was named after a French explorer. It was founded in1902 by Henry Martyn Leland who manufactured automotive gears. The company’s first car was the Cadillac Osceola which was the first closed body car made in America. After gaining reputation for specialization in precise craftsmanship and standard ports, the company was bought by General Motors in 1909.It became the first U.S manufacturer to make a V8 and also the first to use thermostatic control of a cooling system. The brand earned strong reputation during the 1930s with the production of V12 and 16 engines respectively. Cadillac switched to vertical taillights from the flashy tailfins during the 1960s.This made Cadillac’s Fleetwood Sixty Special one of the most successful cars. It was unfortunate that a gas crunch during the1970s forced the company to downsize its vehicles. Situations were made worse when the company produced a diesel engine that received its fair share of criticisms. The company then launched the Seville during the 1980s.The company also produced the Cimarron which did not receive much attention. The company then lost most of its customers when it launched the new V8s. The engines were very unreliable. Actually, during the 1990s, Cadillac was in bad shape that they had to revive Cadillac’s position in the automobile industry. They came up with an "Art & Science" design attitude that included styling cues with sharp, sever lines and stacked headlamps. This saw the rejuvenation of the company’s sales during the 2000s.
